Legend Hosman

Legend is a five-year-old boy from Lakeside, California, and this is his story.

When Legend’s mom went in for a routine ultrasound at 30 weeks pregnant, she thought it would be just another joyful glimpse of her baby boy. A few heartbeat measurements, maybe a quick photo to take home.

But what was supposed to be an ordinary checkup turned into a two-hour scan, and an eerie silence settled in the room.

Then the tech finally looked up and said,
“The doctor will be in to go over the results with you.”

What followed shattered everything she thought she knew about this pregnancy. When the doctor walked in, the room fell still. Then came the news no parent is ever prepared to hear.

Her baby boy, this tiny life she’d been dreaming of, planning for, already loving with her whole heart, had a severe and rare heart defect. He would be born without the entire left side of his heart. The diagnosis: Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

To survive, he would need a series of complex, high-risk open-heart surgeries, beginning just days after birth.
And even with the best care, his chance of making it to his first birthday was only 50 percent.

In an instant, her world cracked open. All the hopes and normalcy of pregnancy were replaced by fear, by questions without answers, and by a quiet but unshakable resolve:
She would fight for her son, no matter what it took.

Legend was born on October 24, 2019, three weeks early, and was already a fighter. He came into the world screaming, but his parents only had two fleeting seconds with him before he was intubated and rushed away for emergency care.

Nearly ten hours passed before they saw him again.
It would be days before his mom could finally hold him, wrapped in wires and monitors, but cradled in love.

At just 7 days old and 5 pounds, Legend underwent his first open-heart surgery.
It was the beginning of a long, uncertain road.

He spent 56 days in the hospital, fighting through complications and setbacks, but his spirit never wavered.

At five months old, what should have been a routine heart procedure turned life-threatening.
Legend needed his second open-heart surgery, followed just hours later by an emergency re-operation.

At six months, he finally came home, still in newborn clothes, weighing just 17 pounds, and with oxygen levels resting around 75–80 percent. Still, even in pain, Legend kept smiling.

At age five, Legend bravely faced his third open-heart surgery, and this time, he amazed everyone.
His recovery was stronger, smoother, and full of hope.

For the first time, his cardiac team felt optimistic: no more major surgeries until adulthood.

But his journey isn’t over. On September 10, 2025, Legend will be admitted to Rady Children’s Hospital for a cardiac catheterization to ensure his heart function hasn’t worsened.

In just five years, Legend has endured three major open-heart surgeries, experienced over 150 ER and inpatient visits, and gone through more pokes, tests, and procedures than anyone can count.

He’s lived through a childhood no child should ever have to handle, one that never came with a life manual.

And yet, he remains one of the happiest, loudest, most lovable kids you’ll ever meet.
He proudly shows off his “zipper scar,” calling it proof of how brave he is. He lights up every room with his goofiness, his jokes, and his enormous heart.

“The most unique thing I have learned while on this journey with Legend is that you never understand your own strength as a parent, until you’re forced to see your child go through things no other child should be going through.”

Legend is the true definition of resilient. He is LEGENDARY.

We are on a mission to raise $5,000 to send Legend and his family on a once-in-a-lifetime DREAM TRIP to Disney World and Give Kids The World. Let’s give them a chance to step away from hospital walls and experience the joy, adventure, and togetherness they’ve fought so hard for. Because after everything his little heart has been through, this time, we want magic to be the thing that makes it full.

Let’s make Disney happen for Legend!
